When choosing a version number to use in software you will write/deploy, look at the published end of life instead of just going with gut feelings about how long something will be around for.

I pushed for MYSQL5.7 on the Project P WordPress. However Programmer I pointed out it has end-of-life in 2 years, whereas v8 should be around for 5+ years.

This is compelling info. I will look this up in future projects.
